ChildRoots is a small family of locally- and woman-owned child care centers in Portland, Oregon. We see children as authentic, powerful individuals, and our mission is to guide their social and emotional development and to foster a sense of wonder about the world around them. Our awe-inspiring classrooms are child-focused and designed to provoke curiosity and encourage inquiry, but it's our Teachers and support staff who make ChildRoots truly outstanding.We're currently recruiting teacher-qualified Substitutes and Break Support at each of our three centers.A Part-Time Substitute works when they're available and when we need help covering for staff members who are sick or taking time off - a perfect role for someone looking for rewarding work but also plenty of time for other pursuits.A Full-time Substitute works a guaranteed number of hours per week, filling in for ill or vacationing coworkers. This role is perfect for someone who's adaptable, adventurous, and interested in working on a regular basis and with a variety of ages.Since we opened our first school in 2007, we've continually adapted our compensation strategy and learned that prospective and current employees alike value fair, predictable compensation. So, all ChildRoots Substitutes and Break Support start at $18.75 and are eligible for standardized annual raises and long-term commitment bonuses. Other centers and programs offer variable starting wages, but we're committed to equal pay for equal work. When you receive a ChildRoots job offer, you won't have to negotiate your wage or wonder how your offer compares to others'.To work with us, you must be currently enrolled in Oregon's Central Background Registry and teacher qualified.These easy, online trainings are required within 30 days of hire:

  • Pediatric CPR/First Aid Course
  • Oregon Food Handler's Card
  • Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety online course
  • Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect online course
  • Prevention is Better than Treatment online course
  • Safe Sleep for Oregon's Infants online course
  • Foundations for Future LearnersThe challenges of COVID reminded us how vital it is to center our employees' well-being. We know we still have much to do to be the BEST place to work in child care in Portland, but that's what we're working toward.All employees are eligible for:
    • 1-3 weeks of Paid Time Off per year, depending on how long they've been with ChildRoots.
