DescriptionThis position supports the work of the YMCA of
Columbia-Willamette, a leading philanthropic organization committed
to strengthening the foundations of our communities. The Leader,
Healthy Living (Aquatics Director) stewards the Y's cause and
advocates for the Y's mission and strategic plan, promoting and
protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive
organization. The Leader, Healthy Living (Aquatics Director) will
oversee all aquatics components and leadership of the Aquatics
Department within the Clark County Family YMCA to ensure aquatics
programs objectives are met. Supervision of aquatics leadership
includes but is not limited to program management including
lifeguards training, Safety Inservice trainings, swim lessons,
Master Swim Team, and Tornadoes YMCA swim team, and aquatics
exercise. The position will be responsible for developing and
managing successful financial plans and strategies to grow aquatics
revenue and philanthropy. The Leader, Healthy Living (Aquatics
Director) will engage and train staff to provide a high quality of
service to members and the community.Requirements
- Plan programs and schedule to meet branch and association goals
and objectives. Ensure schedules meet the needs of members, guests,
and program participants.
- Staff Management: supervise, train and evaluate staff and
volunteers in the aquatics department.
- Maintain pool to meet or exceed association and state
standards.
- Responsible for management and development of Aquatics
Department budget. Develop, manage, and implement strategies to
develop and meet the budget, and budget for growth each year.
- Ensure safety is planned into all policies, procedures,
programs, events, training, and evaluations. Lead by example,
conduct regular training, and enforce compliance.
- Assume responsibility while on duty in the event of an
emergency and follow all procedures.
- Attend Aquatics cabinet meetings, and lead meetings as
appropriate for staff communication and development.
- Know the members, be available to serve, and intervene
effectively when conflict arises.
- Ensure all team member shifts are covered, doing the work
personally as needed.
- Lead or assist with training including monthly in-service
sessions.
- Playing a key role and participating in the YMCA annual
community fundraising campaign including recruiting volunteers and
securing donations each campaign.
- Develop and implement special aquatics events (Healthy Kids
Day, etc.) to build goodwill, membership, and revenue.
- Development of self and others: seek timely and relevant
training for self, staff, and volunteers, keep informed of
developments, trends, and new techniques affecting YMCA
programming.
- Manage relationships with 3rd party organizations that utilize
the pools, i.e., high school swim teams, private schools,
rentals.
- Develop Aquatics annual plan to present to leadership.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director, all Leaders at the
branch level, and regional aquatics team.
- Collaborate regularly with branch leadership, program
operations, and regional teams to ensure the aquatics member
experience is consistent, integrated, and aligned with member needs
and associations strategic plan.
- Other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:
- Two (2) plus years' experience in aquatics setting, preferably
in a leadership position.
- Current certifications in the following areas: Lifeguard by any
of the following: Red Cross, Ellis, or YMCA (preferable), CPR and
First Aid for the professional rescuer, and LGI (or must be willing
and able to obtain within 90 days).
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstration of a Team Player.
- Experience with budget management.
- Experience with supervision.
- Experience with pool mechanics.
- Must be an energetic, creative, and goal-oriented person.
- Must have good knowledge of basic business principles, sound
reasoning, ability, and a high aptitude for working with
people.
- Must pass YMCA background check.Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- YMCA Team Leader certification.
- Certification as a swim instructor.
- Certification and/or experience in pool maintenance.
- Certification and/or experience in teaching water fitness
classes.
- Supervisory/management experience.
